Make Life Easier with a Smart Home

Mar 29th, 2017

Life makes demands on all of us. At ASI, we get that. We all work long hours, try to spend quality time with our families and attempt to keep our homes running as smoothly as possible.

While cloning might not be an option, wouldn’t life be a little easier if we could just automate parts of it? With an ASI Connect interactive home security system, a simple tap on your smartphone or tablet can tell you when your home is secure, temperature-controlled and so much more. Here are three features that we think make life a little easier.

Smart Thermostat

As the outdoor temperature fluctuates between winter cold and a spring thaw, your home’s thermostat is probably as confused as the trees and flowers starting to bud in February and March. Wouldn’t it be nice to take the guesswork out of keeping your home comfortable and cozy during every season?

With an Alarm.com Smart Thermostat integrated with your smart home security system from ASI, you can do exactly that, and save on utility bills at the same time. Want to automatically lower the temperature in your home while everyone is gone during the day? Simply tap on your smartphone app to program the system to drop to 65 degrees from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each weekday, and then back to comfort mode before you arrive home.

Maybe you prefer the bedroom or living room at a higher temperature than the kitchen or utility room? No problem. The Smart Thermostat shares a “brain” with your security system, so you can access and program every wireless sensor placed in the home to respond to your exact comfort level in each room. A change in schedule and going home early? We’ve got you covered. An Alarm.com Smart Thermostat, automated with GEO services, knows when you’re not home, when you return and even when you’re on your way home.

Throwing money away on wasted heat or air conditioning from open doors or windows? Keep calm and carry on. Sensors applied to every door and window via the home security system not only alert you to when they’re open, but the smart thermostat system can be customized to switch to “savings” mode while a door is open and then back to “comfort” when it’s closed.

Lights, Locks and Home Security

Got a kid who keeps losing the house keys or never remembers the garage door code? Know exactly when they arrive home with video camera monitoring and help them get safely inside with the Alarm.com app on your smartphone, computer or tablet. You can unlock the front door if they lost their key and even turn on the lights for them without dropping everything and running home.

Or imagine that it’s a Monday morning and you’re rushing to get out the door, all the while trying not to forget anything … or anyone. You drive off and cannot remember whether you locked the back door or turned off the curling iron in the bathroom. Check the sensors for the specific lock or electrical outlet on the Alarm.com app, and adjust accordingly.

ASI Connect systems using the Alarm.com app can include as few (arming/disarming from your phone) or as many (lights, locks, thermostats, garage doors, etc.) interactive features as you prefer, but may require additional equipment. All can be included in the original home security system installation or added on later, and all of our systems offer the convenience of voice command control.

One interactive feature, the Skybell Wi-Fi Doorbell Camera, provides peace of mind even when you’re not home. Once integrated with your smart home security system, the Skybell lets you see who’s ringing the doorbell and allows you to communicate with them without ever answering the door — or even being home at the time.

Power Outages and Severe Storms

No power? No problem. The Alarm.com system keeps your home connected and protected with advanced wireless technology that uses a reliable cellular connection. It can alert you when the power goes out, provide an interactive map to show how widespread the outage is in your area, and tell you when the power is back on.

Severe storms and flooding? No worries. An ASI home security system with strategically placed sensors will warn you about potentially damaging water leaks, sump pump failure and a sudden temperature drop. Also, consider installing a smart water valve sensor to automatically shut off the water supply. Need to unlock the door for a plumber to make repairs while you’re away from home? Just unlock the door with your smartphone app.

Worried about fire safety and carbon monoxide poisoning? Use the Alarm.com app to closely monitor these dangers, and program the system to turn on the lights for a safe exit and turn off the HVAC system to prevent further issues.

Protect what matters most to you and make life a little easier with a smart home security system from ASI. No matter the obstacle, we can set you up with the right solution.
