20 May Put Your Smart Home To Work For You
The world we live in is a fast-paced one, full of busy people with hectic schedules and “on-the-go” lifestyles. We’re obsessed with convenience, efficiency, and instant gratification. We’re constantly connected to the internet, to our friends, to our family, to our work, to the world. Never stopping, never slowing down for a minute. Our Smart Devices are the key to our multitasking and efficiency. Right now, I know that I can use my Smart Phone to make a call, send a text, check my email, update my Facebook status, take, and edit a picture, check the weather, check my bank account and look in on my house in a matter of minutes. The crazy part is that I know I’ve only scratched the surface of all the things my Smart Phone can do and who knows if I’ll ever learn it all. I could say the same thing for my computer, my tablet, my e-reader, heck, even my car has more features and buttons than I know how to use.
Now, to add to the incredible range of Smart Devices we already have, the Smart Home has come on to the scene. Have you heard about these things? It’s incredible what they can do! Lights, locks, cameras, temperature settings, doors, refrigerators that you can see while you’re at the grocery store! And that’s just the tip of the ice berg!
Smart Homes are definitely cool and they get great marks in convenience, efficiency and instant gratification, but what if you learned all the extras that they could do? Smart homes aren’t just a cool toy – they’re a tool. A really powerful tool. When combined with your home security system and done right, they can really give your a huge bang for your buck. Once you’ve got your custom Smart Home security solution, you can begin to truly optimize it. By setting up alerts and automations for your system you will immediately have a protected home and you’ll start to experience convenience, efficiency, and instant gratification. Then with increased use and optimization you’ll also start seeing a return on your investment.
Here are just a few of the ways you’ll see your Smart Home go to work for you:
1. You’ll Receive Insurance discounts
Most insurance companies will provide home owner’s with a discount on their policy for monitored security systems in the home. Why would they offer a discount on that? Well, for starters, when you’re home is protected by a monitored security system it’s less likely to be burglarized. It’s more likely that if a fire breaks out the fire department will be notified more quickly, and if water finds its way into your basement you’ll know before the damages get too out of hand, which brings me to my next point.
2. You’re Less Likely to Have Expensive Damage
When you know about disasters sooner you have the ability to respond sooner. If your basement floods and you’re notified right away, you have the ability to get the help you need and stop it before the damage becomes too extensive. If you have a house fire, the fire department will be notified right away and there’s a greater chance that your home will suffer less damage. If someone breaks into your home, they are less likely to stick around when they hear your siren go off, and even if they do decide to stay, they’ll have less time to act before the police arrive thanks to the alarm that’s incorporated in your Smart Home. Less damage means less money spent.
3. You’ll Save Energy and Save Money
When you incorporate a thermostat into your Smart Home you’ll start saving money on your bills. By setting up those automations I referred to earlier, your Smart Home will automatically adjust the temperature of your home based on whether or not you’re home, the time of day, or the internal temperature of the home. And, when you’re not cooling or heating an empty home, you’ll be lowering your monthly bill. That’s not to mention the other home appliances your can incorporate.
4. You’ll Save Time and Gas Money
It may be last, but saving time and gas money is certainly not least. I think I’m going to let Kristen Bell and Dax Shepherd demonstrate this one for me.
How cool is it that Dax was able to look into the fridge from the grocery to check on those eggs. Sure, Kristen was only a few feet away but what if she hadn’t been home? I’ve probably had to turn around and drive right back to the grocery store one hundred times after forgetting something basic like eggs! This Smart Fridge gets 100 points for convenience, 100 points for efficiency, 100 points for saving money, and my vote for sure!
